I've seen several complaints about the fees. Since I have organized
a conference myself I'd like to present a short calculation. Such
a conference is not cheap.
Assume the following:
Transatlantic flight 3000.00
European flight 900.00
German travel 500.00
Accommodation/speaker/night 100.00
This could be more expensive, I nearly had to pay 6k for a flight from the
US to Germany. I haven't checked the number of speakers and their country
so it might be better or worse.
Speakers stay 2-6 nights (let's assume 4)
Accommodation per Speaker 400.00
Assume the following:
6.00 Speakers from oversees 18000.00
6.00 Speakers from Europe 5400.00
15.00 Speakers from Germany 7500.00
3.00 GUUG Board
5.00 Organisators
35.00 Accommodation 14000.00
Equipment 10000.00
==========
54900.00
Calculation:
price/ticket nr attendees
100.00 549.00
200.00 274.50
300.00 183.00
This is only a short calculation, there are more factors.
However, I agree that the fees are too high. It would be
best if they were something like 100,-- fuer students etc.
and 250,-- for working people.
If you don't like the fees, please let the orga team know about
it. If you want to save the entrance fee one "trick" is to help
the orgas and move on one day before the conference. I don't
know if they still need helping people, but it's worth a try.
Regards,
Joey
