You should have seen the face of the SUN salesman who could have sworn
that Linux will not run on his E250 server once he had seen this default

You should find a serial cable which fits on one side into the serial
port of your Sun machine and on the other side into the serial port
of an IBM PC. Once I had to use a stack of adapters because the have
a different layout (male / female and number of pins). You might try
to test this before you bring your Sparc with you with a Laptop.
Just connect the Sparc with the Laptop and start for instance seyon
at the laptop. If you are lucky you will see the boot messages of your
Sparc immediately on your seyon screen.
