you do not want to go by train:
(results from http://bahn.hafas.de/ ...)
8.9.99 : Geneve 20:29 -> Olten 22:55 (IC 745)
8.9.99 : Olten 23:08 -> Strasbourg 1:25 (D 498)
9.9.99 : Strasbourg 3:51 -> Augsburg Hbf 08:12 (D 261)
or
9.9.99: Geneve 6:29 -> Zürich HB 9:26 (IC 711)
9.9.99: Zürich HB 9:33 -> Kempten(Allgäu)Hbf 12:39 (EC 167)
9.9.99: Kempten(Allgäu)Hbf 13:05 -> Buchloe 13.46 (IR 2067)
9.9.99: Buchloe 13:49 -> Augsburg Hbf 14.19 (RE 21715)

by car it should go faster...
a third connections takes 3 hours geneve -> basel, 2:15 basel -> mannheim
and 2:15 mannheim -> augsburg. if you go by car, you have a much better
connection. i don't know geneve -> basel, but basel -> augsburg should maximum
4:00, i guess 3:30 or so. (unless you pass stuttgart at between 7:00 an 9:00
or 16:00 and 18:00).
