The LinuxTag comprises a congress and an expo about 'free software'. What would make better sense than to apply the ideas and methods of free software development to the planning and realization of such an event? Being organized like that the LinuxTag is a concentration of know-how in the fields of free software and open source, because what is preached is also put into practice. The goal of LinuxTag is to give a comprehensive overview of free software. It is not limited to presenting free operating systems, but also shows their fields of application. Software which does not meet the criteria of 'free' is displayed, too. True to the free software concept, the consumer conference program and the entry to the fair is free of charge. This offers the opportunity to take a glimpse into the world of free software. At the consumer conference, the LinuxTag wants to make as much information available to the visitor as possible. International speakers will be there to share the latest and best. The LinuxTag provides a great opportunity to meet members of open source groups, to ask questions and give them praise and feedback. To increase the synergy between open source projects in various ways, the LinuxTag provides the chance to get to know one another and exchange technologies and ideas. When commercial software developers meet open source groups discussions arise which provide valuable input for all participants. Following the slogan 'where .com meets .org' there will be special program for IT-managers at the LinuxTag. The business-to-business congress is custom-made for this group of users. In this conference free software is introduced as the corner stone of the IT-department. Potential users will see that free software is already at work productively in the business area. Volunteers are organizing the LinuxTag. The form of organization is open to everybody and everyone interested is invited to join in.
