Someone with technical knowledge of why sysklogd needs version in
linux-2.6.x/init/version.c needs to argue the case on linux-kernel
mailing list, that the patch which suppresses it should be undone:

When ... that patch is undone, the "Cannot find map" problem will be fixed.
I verified that by reverse applying that patch to a 2.6.31.5 kernel
and sysklogd performed normally.
