klogd not working

Hello all

  I don't seem to have kernel logging happening.
  In my rc.M init script I have
       /usr/sbin/syslogd
       /usr/sbin/klogd
  and in syslog.conf I have a line
       kern.* /var/log/kernel
  system logging is occurring, for instance the following lines work
       *.=info;*.=notice /var/log/messages
       *.=debug /var/log/debug
       *.warn /var/log/syslog
       *.* /var/log/everything
  every so often I get on the kernlogd kick and try to figure
  out why its not working but with no success. Anybody got any
  suggestions?
