No. glibc-2.1 will first try stream, then dgram sockets. It will even
automatically reconnect when it notices the stream connection breaks
(but lose one message IIRC).
We've used this patch for about a year now in OpenLinux, and had
no problems. I think most vendors implemented a patch like this
when the issue was first brought up.
