LinuxTag
offers the greatest variety of subjects in Europe concerning Linux and open
source software. There are beginner subjects and overviews as well as
professional conferences and expert meetings. Different formats address
different needs.

Main topics are divided into different series. The free conference, takes
place during all four trade fair days, open to every visitor. In addition,
there are the Keynotes, presented by important persons of the open
source world and are the highlight of a conference day. It is important for
LinuxTag not to devalue the importance of each keynote, therefore there will
only be one per day.

Special conferences for professionals

The Business and Administration Congress is part of the free conference, but
shaped for the needs of decision makers in enterprise and public
administration. Enterprise associations and federal ministries are partner
for this track.

The CIO-Summit gives decision makers a quick and qualifying overview. Here,
IT managers and leading Linux protagonists can talk in an exclusive setup.

Professional users and administrators, who need an overview in key technologies, attend
expert trainings in the Tutorials, which are organized together with the
German Unix User Group (GUUG). New! Typo3 certifications for Linux are now
available through exams taken with the Linux Professional Institute (LPI).

Additional events take such as key signing party, hands on labs, a hacker contest, ad hoc
workshops by exhibiting projects and special lectures for Linux beginners round
up the offerings during this gathering.

Credibility through long years of competence

With help of volunteer advisors, LinuxTag e. V. has kept a watchful eye on the
quality of the conference program at LinuxTag. To assure
that presentations at LinuxTag are not just focusing the sale aspect of
the industry, the program committee reviews all presentations. This doesn't
mean that innovative products and service are left behind. Above all, the
information value for the visitor is the guiding principle.

LinuxTag 2008 attracted greater attention than ever before 
11,612 visitors from 31 countries came to Berlin to visit Europe’s largest event for Linux and open source software, around 18 per cent more than 2007. The number of visitors from abroad was 12 per cent higher than the previous year. Professional users, experts and interested visitors from all over Europe, Africa, Asia and North America were gathered at the international meeting place for business and the community, which ended last Saturday. More than 200 companies and independent projects took part in the 14th LinuxTag in Berlin. One of the most important trends is an increasing degree of cooperation among projects from different areas, so that their work can produce user-friendly solutions. The home entertainment solutions of MythTV and LinuxMCE which were presented in Berlin build on the results of the FFmpeg and MPlayer projects.
