Did you ever tried to really use both of them with real documents?
I had to read some PDF files for my diploma theses and neither xpdf
nor gv were really usable for this (gv doesn't support searching,
while the text rendering of xpdf is very poor (compared to
acroread)).

And don't forget that especially large packages like acroread are
expensive to download via phone line, so they should be preferred on
the CD.

I personally need this for xwatch and xmysqladmin, others may need it
for lyx. But all these three packages aren't really necessary, so we
may remove them all...

I prefer to be able to create (compressed) GIF images. I know, that
this isn't political correct, but until all(!) web browsers support
PNG, I need this...

Tschoeeee
