Mein PC ist ein "stinknormaler" Pentium (32 MB, 233 MHz - der
von LIDL vom April 1998 - Details im Anhang). Darauf habe ich
Linux 2.0.34 installiert (RedHat 5.1). Es gibt nun Schwierig-
keiten mit meinem CD-Laufwerk, und ich bitte händeringend um
Hilfe! (Zuvor der Hinweis, daß beim Booten von Win95 das CD-
Laufwerk einwandfrei erkannt wird und danach auch zugreifbar
ist. Bereits zuvor hat in jedem Fall das BIOS sowohl die HD
aus auch das CD-Laufwerk erkannt. BIOS-Meldungen:
"Detecting IDE Prim. Master: FUJITSU MPB3021ATU
Found CDROM: SAMSUNG-CD-ROM SCR-2431")
Ich bin wie folgt vorgegangen:
a. Unter DOS Erstellen der Bootdiskette für die Installation.
b. Ich boote von Diskette: Das CD-Laufwerk wird von Linux nicht
erkannt!

Folglich Installation nicht möglich!
c. Ich boote direkt von CD: Das CD-Laufwerk wird von Linux

d. Ich installiere nun Linux (und zwar komplett). Klappt!
e. Ich boote Linux von der HD (mittels LILO im MBR). Ergebnis:
hdc: no response (status = 0xd0)
Linux selbst läuft einwandfrei, selbst XFree86 klappt ausge-
zeichnet. Aber an die CD komme ich n.u.v. ("nichtumsverrecken")
ran.
PS: Mit Debian 2.0 habe ich das gleiche versucht - mit gleichem
Ergebnis.
Nochmals: Ich bitte ganz dringend um Hilfe. Vielleicht hat ja
jemand selbst mal auf einem LIDL-PC (s.o.) Linux installiert ?
Ich möchte nämlich so bald wie möglich "Herrn Gates durch Herrn
Torvalds ersetzen".
