Hi,

Joey invited me to this list to discuss my CD/DVD labels here (Thanks Joey!). You can find them at

http://www.ulrich-hansen.de/etch

and they are linked to from the

http://www.debian.org/CD/artwork/

site (although that link goes still to my DynDNS-server in my living room instead of the hosted one).

The last days I have created envelope-covers (in the same style as the labels) for the most important disks. Label & cover for the Live-CD/DVD will follow.

My purpose was to create free labels for people, who want to be able to easily distribute or sell the disks without having to order an own artwork. Don't know if it's appropriate for the Linuxtag.

I wanted the images to have a professional look but keep the hacking spirit of this distribution. The quotes on the CDs should give newcomers a clue on what free software is all about. I am journalist, no programmer, no designer, but interested in these ideas. (Wrote a paper on university about it, see: http://www.ulrich-hansen.de/hansen-opensource.pdf (german language).

Maybe you have ideas or suggestions to the artwork? Some people already responded that they'd like to see the quotes of CD 13 and 14 and the debian-"philosophy" on CD 20 and 21 sooner and on the DVDs as well (which would be easily changeable).

What I am still looking for are _free_ screenshots of the standard desktop and the installer - would be nice for the back of the CDs. Somebody has a link?

Regards
Ulrich
